When some people think of services like home alarm systems to protect the home, they sometimes think of things like surveillance cameras. While they can most certainly help in the fight against home invasion, they may not be exactly what you are looking for.
There are currently two forms of video surveillance on the market: active and passive.
Active video surveillance is the kind where the cameras transmit a live feed directly to a monitoring center where trained specialists can act accordingly should the need arise. You see these in most departments stores at the mall or even in the Wal-Mart parking lot.
Then you see the passive surveillance cameras. The ones that really just record and document an event. These can come in handy during a trial or if evidence is needed for a conviction but they may not be the best fit for your home. Usually, homeowners are looking for more of an active response.
Not to mention that passive surveillance measures don’t do a lot of good if there is poor lighting or the suspects happen to be wearing masks. In the end, it’s really up to you which type of surveillance you bring into the home. Just do your research.
